desktop manager problems

After a week of owning a storm Ive still yet to figure out the desktop manager. specifically downloading things on my computer and transferring them to my phone. Most programs i download make me select a program on the computer to open the downloaded one with and I have no idea which to select. Does anyone know the specific steps to download on the computer and send to your phone? Thanks a lot

Desktop manager runs slow on my pc and does not work very efficiently.
